Fellowship
Christian fellowship is an ancient practice dating back to the book of Acts.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 2:42
Oakville Presbyterian Church has a strong sense of community and compassion for one another. We have a long tradition of gathering together after the worship service to share treats and spend some informal time together connecting with each other, growing our friendships with one another, and nurturing and encouraging our friends and families. It’s an informal time together but we need people willing to host this Fellowship Hour each week. Can you help?
What’s involved?
I’d like to host but I don’t know what to do, can someone help with setup?
Yes, a member of our Fellowship Team would be delighted to assist you with setup and where to find things.
What does the church provide?
We have wonderful kitchen facilities where you will find appliances, paper products, serving items, paper plates and utensils, tea bags, coffee pots, filters, and ground coffee, pretty much everything you need to setup and serve food and drinks.
What should I provide?
We have no strict guidelines on what you can bring. It’s up to you to decide what to serve. Snacks can be homemade or store bought. Bagels or donuts can be divided into smaller pieces. Larger fruit can be sliced while smaller fruits can be served whole. Vegetable trays, cheese trays, cakes, pies, almost anything you wish to provide will work.
When should I start setting up?
We suggest that you start an hour before the worship service starts, depending on how much preparation you did at home. You will need to setup and start the coffee before the service starts.
When should I leave the service to be ready for the fellowship time?
Leave church at the start of the doxology to do last minute set-up items.
What are my other responsibilities?
You are the host of the fellowship hour. Plan on being in the kitchen helping people as needs arise. Plan on cleaning up afterwards – wash dishes, put away items, clean off counters, etc. Leave the kitchen clean and tidy for the next person or group that will be using it.
How can I volunteer?
You can email or call the church office at email.oakvillechurch.org, or call (541) 758-0647.
There is a sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall.
You can reach out to the Fellowship Elder and express your desire to host.
